Keynote by Joe Konstan

Joe has kindly provided us with details about his keynote, entitled:

Community Agents: Experiences, Research Directions, and Insights

Abstract. Today’s online communities are complex societies with diverse memberships, digital interactions and artifacts, and goals.  For more than fifteen, we have been studying the design of tools embedded in these communities for the purposes of directing community members to desirable content, and more recently for soliciting help and effort from community members, for the sake of the communal good.  In this talk, I review a series of research efforts looking at community agents–efforts embedded in a variety of online content communities including MovieLens, Wikipedia, and others — and look at current research directions towards creating more targeted and effective agents to help organize communities.
